The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has successfully started exporting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, to several African countries, including Cameroon, Ghana, Angola, and South Africa. This development was revealed by Dr. Devakumar Edwin, the Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, during a visit from a delegation of the Japanese Business Community in Nigeria, led by Japan’s Ambassador-designate to Nigeria, Suzuki Hideo.
Dr. Edwin highlighted that, in addition to petrol, diesel has been exported worldwide, while jet fuel is also being heavily sent to European markets. He emphasized that the refinery’s products are already gaining international recognition and making a significant impact in global markets.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which is the largest single-train refinery complex in the world, is a major achievement for Nigeria. It was designed and built by Nigerian engineers and contractors, with the Dangote Group leveraging Africa’s vast crude oil resources to refine products locally. This approach aims to foster a cycle of industrial development, job creation, and economic prosperity within the region.
Dr. Edwin also pointed out that the facility reflects the vision of Aliko Dangote, a prominent Nigerian investor, and represents a major milestone in the country’s industrial and economic growth. The refinery not only strengthens Nigeria’s position as a key player in global energy markets but also serves as a source of pride for the nation’s engineering and construction capabilities.
The Japanese delegation, which recently toured the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Petrochemicals, and Dangote Fertilizers facilities, expressed strong admiration for the state-of-the-art technology on display. They noted that the advanced facilities are a testament to Nigeria’s growing role as a key gateway to Africa.
Takashi Oku, the Managing Director of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), highlighted the significance of Nigeria’s position as the gateway to Africa. He also praised the Dangote Refinery as a remarkable project that underscores the country’s technological advancements. The delegation’s visit reflects the global recognition of Nigeria’s expanding industrial and technological capabilities, with the Dangote Group’s refinery and associated facilities serving as a major example of Nigeria’s potential to lead in innovation and manufacturing within Africa.
