Vinicius Junior has been named the winner of the men’s FIFA Best award after an outstanding 2024 with Real Madrid.
The 24-year-old Brazilian missed out on this year’s Ballon d’Or to Manchester City midfielder Rodri, a decision that caused controversy and frustration among Madrid fans. However, Vinicius Jr. has now been recognized for his exceptional performances, receiving the prestigious trophy at the ceremony held in Qatar.
Already in Doha ahead of Real Madrid’s Intercontinental World Cup final against Pachuca, Vinicius Jr. was on hand to lift the FIFA Best trophy. The 24-year-old and his Real Madrid teammates had previously boycotted the Ballon d’Or ceremony in October, angered by the decision to award Rodri the prestigious honor.
On stage, Vinicius Jr. shared an emotional message: “It seemed impossible for me to stand here… I came from a small place, close to poverty and crime. Now, I’m here. I want to thank everyone who voted for me—players, coaches, fans. This means a lot to me.”
